Position: Financial Controller

Novatech Engineering (a mid-sized engineering consulting firm with approximately 125 employees) is hiring a financial Controller with a CPA designation. We are looking for a hands-on individual to manage our organization’s accounting and financial reporting systems. Key duties will include overseeing the accounting operations, managing the time-based accounting system, analyzing financial data, monitoring and preparing projects’ financial reports and publishing monthly financial statements.

The candidate should have strong numerical and planning skills to help guide our organization’s goals of continuing positive revenue and income growth, while also maintaining the appropriate financial controls. Other key abilities would include: strong analytical and management skills, good communication skills, excellent capacity to manage technology, as well as proficiency in Excel.

A minimum of 10 years’ experience with progressively increased responsibility, ideally with some of that being in a small-business environment.

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring project revenue and time written off. Prepare a monthly summary of these results.
  • Analyzing monthly data and preparing monthly financial statements.
  • Reviewing and reporting on weekly and monthly revenue by staff and related utilization.
  • Monitor collections of accounts receivables and follow up as required.
  • Oversee payroll function and related employee benefits programs.
  • Monitor WIP time and ensure unbilled time represents a valid asset.
  • Supervising a staff of three.
  • Coordinating the annual Accounting Review process.
  • Maintaining the accounting software and developing applications to enhance reporting.

Position: Land Use Planner

Minimum 5 years experience in land development and/or municipal planning.  Full Membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners is required.  Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate complete development approval applications, including Official Plan amendment, zoning amendment, Committee of Adjustment, Plan of Subdivision, Site Plan Control and condominium applications.
  • Review preliminary concepts and perform due diligence activities.   
  • Prepare supporting documents such as Planning Rationales.
  • Contact municipalities and other approval agencies, utilities in the pursuit of approvals and general coordination tasks.
  • Coordinate with other consultants and internal groups.
  • Communicate pertinent project information to Project Manager, municipalities and staff assigned to projects.
  • Participate in public meetings for development approval applications.
  • Negotiate or assist in negotiating relevant agreements and conditions (e.g. subdivision and site plan conditions/agreements, condominium registration, permits, etc.).

Skills/Competencies/Qualifications:

  • Positive attitude towards work, colleagues and supportive of a team environment.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects.
  • Strong analytical and report writing skills. 
  • Detail-oriented and time management capabilities.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and presentation skills and experience (ranging from informal client meetings to formal stand-up presentations) with various stakeholders;
  • A valid driver’s license is required, as some travel will be expected.

 

Position: Intermediate Civil Engineer – Traffic & Transportation (Minimum of 4 Year’s Experience)

Responsibilities:
You will be involved in various aspects of traffic impact analysis and report preparation, including coordinating traffic counts, calculating growth rates, trip generation, assessing traffic impact at access locations/nearby intersections and compiling recommended roadway improvements. 

You will develop design concepts into preliminary designs, including preparation of design briefs, detailed geometry and general layout development, as well as other infrastructure elements. You will be involved in preliminary grading/servicing design and cost estimates.

You will have an opportunity to expand your knowledge of current industry practices and standards and undertake engineering analysis following these approved standards and procedures.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering – Interest or Concentration in Transportation
  • Field or Site Work experience an asset (survey, inspection)
  • Knowledge of the following software would be an asset
        • Synchro Ver. 8 Traffic software
        • Rodel-v1Win (Roundabout software)
        • AutoCAD/Civil 3D
        • Microsoft Office Applications
  • Strong communication skills, technical writing skills
  • Independent, displaying a high level of commitment
  • P.Eng. designation

 

Position: Urban Designer/Landscape Architect

Candidates should possess 7-10 years’ experience in urban design and landscape architecture. Ability to work on a collaborative team basis is essential. The successful candidate will participate in a range of projects including preparation of master plans, secondary plans, plans of subdivisions, site plans and landscape plans. Tender & contract administration experience will be considered an asset. Full Membership in the Ontario Association of Landscape Architects is desirable. Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D and Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign), and experience in Sketchup and PowerPoint preferred.

 

 

Position: Landscape Technician

Candidates should possess a Landscape Technician certificate from a recognized institution or equivalent experience.  Ability to work in a collaborative team is essential. Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D is required. Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign), SketchUp, and PowerPoint is preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparing engineering design drawings using AutoCad/Civil 3D
  • Assisting with grading/servicing design and cost estimates

  • Civil Engineering Technology Diploma or Architectural Diploma
  • Design course(s) in piped storm and sanitary sewers, watermain, drainage and grading an asset
  • Field or Site Work experience an asset (survey, inspection)
  • Knowledge of the following software:
    • AutoCAD/Civil 3D
    • Microsoft Office Applications
  • Strong communication skills

 

Positions: Junior Civil Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • Develop design concepts provided by senior staff into preliminary designs
  • Preparation of design briefs, detailed calculations for sizing sewer system and appurtenances, as well as other infrastructure elements
  • Involved in grading/servicing design, cost estimates and report writing
  • Develop knowledge of current industry practices and standards
  • Undertake engineering analysis following approved standards and procedures

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Field or Site Work experience an asset (survey, inspection)
  • Knowledge of the following software would be an asset
    • AutoCAD/Civil 3D
    • Microsoft Office Applications
  • Strong communication skills, technical writing skills
  • Independent, displaying a high level of commitment
  • Committed to obtaining P.Eng. designation

 

Position: Intermediate Civil Engineer
