Inspector (Summer or Co-Op Student)

We are looking for a civil engineering student to join our Novatech field inspection team for a summer or Co-Op position.  You will be mentored by an experienced inspector who will train you in conducting  construction inspections and contract administration to municipalities, land developers, and other clients for civil engineering linear infrastructure and site works projects.   If you appreciate seeing projects progress, liaising with a diverse group of contractors and consultants and enjoy attention to detail, this may be an ideal fit.

What You’ll Do

  • Participate in the inspection of various linear infrastructure and site work projects to ensure compliance with contract documents, quality and safety standards, including sewers, watermains, stormwater management facilities, roadways, grading, sidewalks, curbs and utilities.
  • Learn to interpret requirements and details of contract drawings and specifications.
  • Maintain a detailed daily diary of the contractor’s work, instructions provided, issues encountered, and change management used.
  • Assist with logging as-built elevations and help to verify quantities, maintaining supporting documentation.
  • Compile daily or weekly inspection reports for various construction sites.
  • Assist with preparation of payment certificates.
  • File project information electronically in appropriate folders on the shared drive.
  • Assist with surveyor tasks as needed: pre-engineering surveys and construction layout, using a total station or GPS instrument.

Skills & Experience You’ll Need

  • High level of commitment, reliability and professionalism.
  • Knowledge of the following software: Microsoft Office applications; AutoCAD/Civil 3D is an asset
  • Previous field experience with sewer, water main drainage, and road construction is an asset.
  • Ability to work as part of an inspection team (outdoors), possibly in adverse conditions, for long hours during construction season, including overtime as required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • A valid Province of Ontario driver’s license and access to a vehicle.

Education and Accreditation Required

  • Working towards a Civil Engineering Degree or Civil Engineering Technology Diploma

Compensation/Work Arrangements

  • Hourly Range: $23-$28 per hour. Range offered will be based on education, experience,
    and skills

Civil Engineering – Land Development (New Graduate)

We are looking for someone who appreciates using design concepts to build sustainable infrastructure for developing communities in an environmentally responsible way. What You Will Do

  • Assist in developing design concepts into preliminary designs, including preparation of design briefs and general layout development.
  • Assist in completing preliminary grading and servicing design.
  • Apply current industry practices and standards to undertake engineering analysis following approved standards and procedures.
  • Support the civil engineers, planners and landscape architects and other project team members to ensure that the designs produced are consistent with and align with the overall business objectives of the project.
  • Help prepare construction cost estimates.

Computer Systems Technician (2-3 years’ experience)

What We’re Looking For

Novatech is seeking a proactive and highly organized Computer Systems Technician to join our IT team. This role involves providing essential support to our Planning, Engineering, and Landscape Architecture project teams. We’re looking for a professional who is detail-oriented, takes initiative, and thrives both independently and in collaborative environments.

What You’ll Do

  • Install, configure, troubleshoot, maintain, and upgrade components for computer systems in a Windows environment. Typical tasks include: installing and configuring operating systems, maintaining device drivers, troubleshooting the boot process, and customizing and personalizing the operating environment.
  • Analyze and resolve IT problems through the application of systematic approaches to issues with computer systems, switches, WAP’s, printers, plotters, digital phone system, cell phones.
  • Coordinate with internal groups, IT staff and third-party Server level support.
  • Provide efficient and effective technical support to staff in a manner that promotes safe computing practices.
  • Assist with staff video conferencing support.
  • Provide support for critical production deadlines.
  • On-site presence is critical and occasional evening and weekend work is required.
  • Responsibilities noted are not an exhaustive list, and job roles and responsibilities may change over time.

Skills & Experience You’ll Need

  • Knowledge of the Windows operating system and Microsoft Office suite of products is essential.
  • Familiarity with batch files and the command line environment.
  • Familiarity with IT security protocols, common threats and counter measures, including firewalls, intrusion prevention systems and virtual private networks.
  • Experience with cloud computing.
  • Ability to troubleshoot in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Attention to detail and excellent time management capabilities.
  • Positive attitude towards work, colleagues and supportive of a team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal & communication skills are essential when dealing with colleagues and 3rd party support.

Education and Accreditation Required

  • Computer Systems Technician
  • CompTIA A+ Certification considered an asset.
