Land Use Planner (New Graduate)

Novatech is seeking a graduate to join our Planning and Development team.  We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about the opportunity to facilitate the growth and development of the City of Ottawa and surrounding rural and urban municipalities.  If you desire an opportunity for professional growth, involvement in a variety of projects, and have the enthusiasm conducive to working in a dynamic team environment, this may be an ideal fit.

Responsibilities

  • Help complete and coordinate development approval applications, including Official Plan amendments, zoning amendments, Committee of Adjustment, Plan of Subdivision, Site Plan Control and condominium applications
  • Review preliminary concept plans, perform due diligence activities and project evaluation
  • Assist in preparing supporting documents such as Planning Rationales
  • Liaise with clients, other consultants, municipalities and other associated agencies in the pursuit of approvals, communicating project information and coordinating tasks
  • Participate in public meetings, hearings and events for development approval applications
  • Assist in negotiating agreements and conditions (e.g., subdivision and site plan conditions/ agreements, condominium registration, permits, etc.)

Skills & Qualifications

Water Resources Engineer (New Graduate)

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development of  storm drainage and stormwater management strategies for small and large scale land development and municipal infrastructure projects (urban & rural)
  • Contribute towards the design of storm drainage, stormwater treatment, and other water resources related projects
  • Complete hydrologic  and hydraulic modeling and analysis of geospatial data
  • Apply current industry practices and standards to undertake engineering analysis following approved standards and procedures.
  • Compose stormwater management reports
  • Support multi-disciplinary teams including civil engineers, planners and landscape architects in projects relating to infrastructure in urban and rural settings

Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with in the  following software: SWMHYMO/Visual OTTHYMO; PCSWMM/EPA SWMM; HEC-RAS (open channel hydraulics); AutoCAD/Civil 3D; GIS; Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of  hydrologic & hydraulic modeling principles and their application
  • Strong verbal, written communication and technical writing skills
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and analytical skills
  • A commitment to excellence and high quality work with strong attention to detail and accuracy

Civil Engineering Technologist New Graduate

Novatech is seeking an experienced transportation civil engineer to join our established and growing transportation team. We are looking for an individual who is enthusiastic about traffic and transportation design, in support of our land development and public infrastructure projects. If you enjoy building relationships and working collaboratively in a dynamic team environment, this may be an ideal fit.

What You Will Do

  • Prepare traffic impact analysis and report preparation, including coordinating traffic counts, calculating growth rates, trip generation, assessing traffic impact at access locations/nearby intersections and compiling recommended roadway improvements
  • Contribute to the development of design concepts into preliminary designs, including preparation of design briefs, detailed geometry and general layout development, and other infrastructure elements
  • Work directly with land development and public sector infrastructure engineers, planners, landscape architects, and other team members as part of an integrated multi-disciplinary project team
  • Support application of current industry practices and standards to undertake transportation engineering analysis following approved standards and procedures
  • Assist with preliminary grading and servicing design for transportation projects
  • Develop project coordination, delegating, mentoring, and, ultimately, project management skills
