Project Description

Novatech was retained by Kanata Research Park Corporation (KRP) to complete the site planning for this 4-star hotel facility, which is centrally situated in the Kanata North Economic District—Canada’s largest technology park. This KRP-developed site included underground parking, an inviting outdoor pool zone, and full integration into the Marshes golf course. Integration of the stormwater management design for the surrounding business park with the golf course was a major challenge of this project, and included all supplemental design work, access pathways and related public/player use areas. This project involved staff from all disciplines that Novatech offers: civil, water resources and transportation engineering, land use planning and landscape architecture.

More recently, Novatech provided professional planning, civil engineering, transportation engineering, and landscape architecture services to Wesley Clover International and Brookstreet Hotel in support of an Official Plan Amendment Application, Zoning Amendment Application, and Application for Site Plan Approval for a proposed addition to the Brookstreet Hotel. The development consists of a high-rise apartment building containing rental apartments. The proposed development is within short walking or cycling distance of major employers in the technology sector and the City of Ottawa’s proposed bus rapid transit line along March Road. The development is a catalyst for one of the “Activity Centres” within the Kanata North Economic District as designated in the City of Ottawa’s Official Plan. The development consists of 256 apartments, including studios and one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, additional conference space, and a restaurant on the 30th floor of the building that will be open to the public.
